HALF DAY PORTO ALEGRE CITY TOUR
Duration: 2:30 hrs. After pick-up at hotel tour will visit downtown Porto
Alegre and its main sights: the State Government Palace; the State Legislative
Palace; the Palace of Justice; the São Pedro Theater (1850) and the Cathedral.
Tour will continue to Dores Church; Museum of Modern Art; the old Customs Building
and the Mário Quintana Cultural Center. From Santa Tereza residential area, a hill,
one can enjoy a 180º view of the city.
FULL DAY
TOUR GRAMADO & CANELA MOUNTAN RESORTS TOUR WITH LUNCH
Duration: 10 hrs. Leaving Porto Alegre, bus will take the Rio dos Sinos Valley,
passing by São Leopoldo, Novo Hamburgo, Sapiranga and Igrejinha, reaching Canela
a mountin resort - 80 miles away. Visit to Canela starts with the ecological parks
of Pinheiro Grosso, Ferradura, Bromberg and the Caracol and waterfall. Downtown Canela
we visit the Cathedral, the Lage de Pedra park and "Steam World" (exhibition of dozens
of miniatures of steam engines from the 19th and 20th centuries). Tour will take the
road to Gramado, another resort town just 4 miles away, reaching the Quilombo look-out;
the Santa Claus village at Knorr Park and the Lago Negro (Black Lake) Park. Free time to
explore the main street on foot and sample the local speciality, "Café Colonial".
At 4:00 pm we start our return trip to Porto Alegre with a stop at Nova Petrópolis,
a typical German city, to visit the Immigration Park.
FULL DAY
- MOUNTAIN REGION - ITALIAN COLONIZATION
Duration: 10 hrs. The Vineyards Counties Tour - After driving along a beautiful scenic
route for 80 miles we reach Caxias do Sul, the main city of this region colonized by
Italians and today an important center for the mechanical and metal industry. Visit to
the São Pelegrino´s Church and the afresco paintings by Aldo Locatelli. Tour continues
to Bento Gonçalves, the largest wine producing area in the state and a very important
furniture manufacture center. After a quick tour of the city we continue to the San Piero
district to see the old stone houses of the first Italian immigrants; a colonial mill; a
textile industry with old looms and a very old colonial wine canteen dating back to 1882.
Typical colonial Italian lunch at the valley to visit small wine canteens/shops where apart
from wine tasting one can buy colonial products. On the return road, a stop at Garibaldi for
a short visit.
PORTO ALEGRE
BY NIGHT
Duration: 3:30 hrs. A short tour around the city by night and a lovely view of the river.
Dinner will be in one of Porto Alegre´s barbecue restaurants, famous for the gaucho style
barbecue. After dinner, enjoy a typical gaucho folk dance and music.
