CITY TOUR
Duration: 3:30 hrs. Belo Horizonte, founded in 1897, is Brazil´s first
urban planned city. The tour includes a visit to Praça da Liberdade
(Liberty Square), the Cathedral and Historic Museum and the Pampulha lake
with its residential area and famous landmarks. In Pampulha one finds the
Museum of Modern Art and the Chapel of São Francisco, Oscar Niemeyer´s,
architect that conceived Brasíilia and decorated with paintings by Portinari.
HALF DAY
SABARÁ TOUR
Duration: 3:30 hrs. This historical city is 18 kms from Belo Horizonte and
was founded in 1672 by the explorer Borba Gato, on the banks of the Rio das
Velhas (river). Sabará was originally Borba Gato´s camping ground in his
expedition searcing for gold and emeralds, though they were mainly interested
in the conquest of new territories. Places of Interest: Imperial Theater, the
only theater in Elizabethan style in America; the Gold Museum; the Churches of
Carmo and Our Lady of Ó (1720); the house of Aleijadinho (Little Cripple), the
greatest Brazilian sculptor of all time. Contrasting with the historical monuments
Sabará is today the site of a steel mill.
HALF DAY
CONGONHAS DO CAMPO TOUR
Duration: 4:30 hrs. Congonhas do Campo - 80km. Together with Ouro Preto and Sabará,
Congonhas is one of the remaining towns of the gold cycle. Presents as points of
interest Aleijadinho's sculpture masterpiece, the twelve prophets in soapstone, and
the sculptural representation of the Via Crucis, in polychromatic woodwork. To perform
this job, Aleijadinho counted on the aid of his pupils to work in a system similar to
medieval corporations. The set of life-size sculptures is considered the greatest artistic
treasure in Brazil. Highlights of the tour: Cathedral Basilica \and its famous 18th century
organ of German manufacture and its gold inlaid wood panels with oriental style decoration
and the Via Crucis chapels.

MAQUINÉ CAVE TOUR WITH LUNCH
Duration: 9 hrs. This most beautiful cave in Brazil is over 600 meters long and 15 meters
high. It still has unexplored galleries and the naturalist Peter Lund lived in its interior
for some time, studying the origins of the primitive American man. The artificial interior
illumination displays million year old stalactites and stalagmites.

OURO PRETO TOUR WITH LUNCH
Duration: 9 hrs. This city, a National Monument of Colonial Architecture and art was officially
recognized by UNESCO in 1980 - World Cultural Heritage. Here you will find a fine example of
Brazilian Baroque Art when visiting the Museum of Inconfidencia (named after an abortive plot
against Portuguese rule in 1788); the Church of São Francisco de Assis (designed and decorated
by Aleijadinho). You will also see the former Governor's Palace today the site of the Escola
de Minas, with is 2nd largest collection of minerals in the world.
