Historical Brazil 17 nights - 18 days

Package starts in Rio de Janeiro. Rio nestles between the mountains and the sea. Be it at night or during the day, the visitor quickly finds out why Rio is known as the Marvelous City.

Day 1:

Meet and greet at airport for transfer-in to hotel. Afternoon half-day-tour to The Sugar Loaf Mountain. Our clients are to go on a 770 feet high-cable-car-ride up to Sugar Loaf Mountain. Built in 1912, Sugar Loaf is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. Tour also includes sightseeing along beaches, as far as Barra da Tijuca Beach. On the way back to hotel there will be a short stop at São Conrado beach for refreshments (at clients expenses) such as coconut water, "caipirinha ", " chopp " (draft beer). Night at leisure.

Day 2:

Morning pick-up at hotel for a full-day-cultural-walking-tour, which includes lunch at "Confeitaria Colombo":

Nossa Senhora da Glória do OuteiroChurch - Known as Outeiro da Glória , it is a magnificent site . This octagonal-shaped-church, in a colonial style, located on a hill, has fascinating walls decorated with Portuguese tiles ;

Palacio do Itamaraty - Neo-Classic style .The palace was built for "Barão do Itamaraty", a Portuguese Baron. Nowadays it keeps the Diplomatic-Historical-Museum;

Real Gabinete Português de Leitura - The Royal institution was founded in 1.837. However, the building started being built in 1.884. Three years later (1.887) it was concluded.A piece of art with portuguese marble all over;

Teatro Municipal - A replica of " L'Opera de Paris". It was inaugurated on the 14th of July 1.909. Ecletic style for it mixes barroc and classical traces .It is the most luxurious theatre in town .

Casa Colombo - Inaugurated on the 17th of September 1.894, this eclectic stile building with traces of " noveau " became a meeting point for artists and politicians since the beginning of the century .In the evening, a Rio by Night Tour : Folkloric show at Plataforma 1 Show House. Tour includes dinner (excludes beverages) at Marius Barbecue Restaurant .

Day 3:

Breakfast-buffet at hotel in the morning.

Morning pick-up at hotel for a full day tour to Petrópolis including lunch (no beverages included).

Petrópolis is a mountain resort where the royal family used to spend vacation time. After that, imperial family set a house there .The palace, nowadays holds the Imperial Museum. Also know as the City of Flowers, the ride itself is magnificent.

There, one can also visit The Crystal Palace (an orchidarium ) and the Cathedral .

Day 4:

Transfer to airport for flight to:

São Luiz

The state capital of Maranhão . The city was founded by the French in 1.612 but colonized by the Portuguese .As so, keeps traces of both cultures.

Meet and greet at airport for transfer-in to hotel.

Day 5:

Breakfast-buffet at hotel in the morning.

Morning pick-up at hotel for historical-city-tour which is to include lunch at " Restaurante Cabana do Sol " (typical regional food) . Beverages are not included.

By taking the historical tour, one is to visit: touristic spots; the historical center with its old colonial houses as well as the popular-culture museum ; the historical museum ; the artistic museum and the sacred-arts museum .

Enening pick-up for a " by night " tour: a night-ride which includes dinner (excluding beverages) at " Maracangalha " Restaurant (regional sea food) .

Day 6:

Breakfast-buffet at hotel in the morning.

Morning pick-up at hotel for a boat tour to Alcântara: it was one of the richest cities of the first Portuguese empire .It holds old houses and ruins of temples of that era.

Tour includes lunch (excludes beverages) at " Restaurante Cheiro Verde " (regional food: fowl, meat and sea food).

Evening pick-up at hotel for a " by night " tour wich includes dinner (beverages are not included) at " Dona Maria "Restaurant. Clients are to go to the theatre: " Ópera Catirina ".

Recife

The state capital, Recife, is known as the " Brazilian Venice" as it is crisscrossed by the Capibaribe and Beberibe rivers and their many canals and waterways, spanned by bridges.

Meet and greet at airport for transfer-in to hotel.

Before taking the afternoon half-day tour to Recife / Olinda, clients are to have lunch at " Leite " Restaurant (beverages are not included).

In Recife (the oldest area in Pernambuco State) , one is to see the contrasts between buildings of the 17th century and the modern ones from the 20th century . Clients are also to visit places such as : Praça da República ; Sacred-Art Museum ( with its beautiful Golden Chapel ) ; Gabinete Português de Leitura and Casa da Cultura .

Day 8:

Breakfast-buffet at hotel .

A half-day tour to Igarassu, the very first village in Latin America (1535). Tour includes a visit to Itamaracá Island with its untouched mangrove area, coconut palm fringed beaches a welcoming warm sea and the famous Fort Orange, built by the Dutch in 1631 and re-built by the Portuguese on the second half of the 17th century.

Transfer to airport for flight to:

Salvador

Bahia is a friendly and fascinating state, and in Salvador, the State capital, it is easy to lose yourself with so many unusual things to see. There are no less than 365 Churches, one for every day of the year. The most ornate of all is the Church of São Francisco, and at the Bonfim Church the African and Christian religious beliefs meet.

Day 10:

Breakfast-buffet at hotel.

Morning pick-up at hotel for a full-day-city-tour , including lunch ( excluding beverages ) at "Restaurante Uauá" where clients will taste the most typical regional food .

After lunch , clients will be gifted with afro-percussion-lessons for about 1 hour .

Evening pick-up for a " By Night Tour ": dinner and folkloric show either at " Solar do Unhão" or at "Teatro Miguel Santana ". Beverages are not included.

Day 11:

Breakfast-buffet at hotel .

Morning pick-up for a full-day-panoramic-tour , including lunch at " Restaurante da Dadá " ( beverages are not included ) .The old and the new parts of town are to be shown : "bairro da ribeira ; Igreja do Bonfim ; Mercado Modelo ; Terreiro Casa Branca ( subject matter is camdomblé ) " . Clients are to visit the sacred place for the African rituals and ceremonies After lunch , clients are to visit " Museu Carlos Costa Pinto " : china ; colonial furniture ; jewels that once belonged to ancient black slaves .

Day 12:

Breakfast-buffet at hotel .

Morning pick-up at hotel for a full day tour "Litoral-Norte". Clients are to visit beaches such as Praia do Arembepe , Praia de Guarajuba , Praia do Forte . Tour is to include lunch at " Restaurante Cabanas do Aruá " , with view to Aruá Lake. .Lunch includes a welcome drink : " CAIPIRINHA " ; a typical Brazilian drink made out of lemon juice , ice-cubes , sugar and "cachaça " ( fire-water ) .

Belo Horizonte

The State Capital of Minas Gerais . It was the very first pre-planned city in the country, which was founded in 1.897 .It, is the third most populous city in the country. It is also a productive pole of " cachaça " (fire-water ) for exportation .

Day 14:

Morning pick-up at hotel for departure to Diamantina .

After arrival, clients are to go on a city-tour: the very first occupation of the territory took place in 1.678 due to the expedition of Fernão Dias Paes Leme in search for silver and emeralds. However, the area found its growth at the beginning of the 18th century when diamonds were discovered. Tour is to include lunch (no beverage included).

Day 15:

Breakfast-buffet at hotel in the morning.

Morning pick-up at hotel for departure to Serro.After arrival, clients are to go on a city tour: former " Vila do Príncepe do Serro Frio " . One amongst the very first 4 districts of Minas Gerais , it still keeps traces of its first urban conception. After the tour (which is to include lunch. Beverages are to be paid upon consumption on the spot), clients are to be driven back to Belo Horizonte .

Day 16:

Breakfast-buffet at hotel in the morning.

Morning pick-up at hotel for a full-day -tour to Congonhas / Mariana from where clients are driven to Ouro Preto where they are to spend the overnight. At Congonhas, Mariana and Ouro Preto , one is to admire the art of "Aleijadinho " ( the little crippled ) , a famous sculptor - whose real name was Antonio Francisco Lisboa - who died of a non-specific-degenerative-illness of members and organs and used to have a hammer and a chisel strapped to his wrists .

However, it is in Ouro Preto that one can find the biggest collection of Baroque Art in the world. That's the reason why it is considered to be a National Monument of Colonial art and architecture.

Day 17:

Morning pick-up at hotel for a full-day Ouro Preto , including lunch ( excluding beverages ) . Transfer back to Belo Horizonte for a last overnight before departure to Rio.

Day 18:
