WILD PANTANAL 10 nights - 11 days
Pantanal Lowlands(swampland and shallows, actually a vast alluvial plain) is a vast wetland area in the center of South America with around 140,000 square kilometers (50,000 sq. miles) in Brazil. It's a perfect ecological niche for a great number of birds,
reptiles and other animals to the delight of wildlife watchers and photographers.
Savannah Tableland- Geologically as old as the Andes formation, the Chapada dos Guimarães Tableland with its average 760 m high, gives sources to all main rivers and waters that run into the Pantanal. Its waterfalls, creeks, rock formations covered with
Cerrado (Savannah-like) vegetation and exotic wildlife, present this National Park with an unbeaten beauty.
Paraguai River + Pantanal Lowlands + Savnnah Tableland
Day 1:
CUIABÁ - CÁCERES - PARAGUAY RIVER CRUISE
Reception at Cuiabá/Várzea Grande Airport and transfer by air-conditioned van to Cáceres - 211 km (snack on route). At 04:00 PM board a local "Chalana" river boat to cruise down the Paraguay River. Diner and overnight on board in shared accommodations.
Day 2:
PARAGUAY RIVER CRUISE - PORTO CONCEIÇÃO
Further cruise downriver until Porto Conceição, founded in 1929 and served as a cattle and caiman skins embarkment port until 1944. Lunch. Preparing for the expeditions while cruising.
Dinner and overnight on board.
Day 3:
TRECKKING THROUGH THE PANTANAL LOWLANDS
Early breakfast followed by desembarkment and beginning of our Pantanal lowland expedition. Hike along São Gonçalo bay, with picnic lunch on route - we should reach our camp spot
by the end of the afternoon, where we will meet our next crew-guides and horses. Settling and cooking of our meal. Overnight at campfire in hammocks.
Day 4:
RIDE THROUGH PANTANAL FIELDS AND BUSHES
Full day on horse trough bushy fields characteristically of drier low lands. The 15 km ride until São Benedito Ranch will last until 03:00 PM; short rest, followed by safari on open
truck until São José farm. Shower, dinner and overnight in mattresses at its scenic old days farmhouse.
Day 5:
PANTANAL CATTLE RANCH
Enjoy São José surroundings and activities. Learn about old and nowadays cattle breading and "Pantaneiros" stories. Lunch, dinner and overnight.
Day 6:
SAFARI ON THE TRANSPANTANEIRA PARK ROAD
06:00 AM departure on open safari truck along 105km of the Transpantaneira Park Road. 10:30 AM arrive and check-in at PORTAL DO PANTANAL LODGE, at the beginning of the Park Road.
Lunch, dinner (with local guitar player) and overnight.
Day 7:
PANTANAL LOWLANDS/ SAVANNAH TABLELAND
Breakfast followed by activities around the lodge. After lunch, departure to Chapada dos Guimarães Tableland, where most of the headwaters of the rivers that flow and flood the
Pantanal are located. Sunset at "Cidade de Pedra" outlook, with an breathtaking view over the National Park. Dinner and overnight at camp.
Day 8:
SAVANNAH TABLELAND
Further explorations into the Tablelands National Park, its valleys, hills and caves. Overnight at camp.
Day 9:
SAVANNAH TABLELAND/ CUIABÁ
Return to Cuiabá for your outgoing flight.
Arrival in Rio de Janeiro and transfer to hotel. Day at leisure.
Day 10:
Breakfast buffet at hotel. Full day Jeep tour to Corcovado Mountain and through the Tijuca Forest with lunch included. Beverages are not included. Night at leisure.
Day 11:
Breakfast buffet at hotel.. Day at leisure. Transfer out to airport.
DEPARTURES: 1st and 3rd Sundays - Months: July until December minimum 6 pax, maximum 8 pax.
